Brisbane Canoeing Inc offers the opportunity to get into kayaking safely and quickly. Intro To Kayaking Sessions is our method to introduce new-comers to the sport and is run by club volunteers. Minimum age is generally 10 but contact us to discuss if you believe you child has sufficient ability to be comfortable on the water in a learning environment.
Intro To Kayaking Sessions are generally held in January, April and September each year and run for 3 consecutive Saturdays from the club location at Simpsons Playground, Graceville – off Graceville Avenue – mouth of Oxley Creek.

The aim of the sessions is only to allow you to participate safely and adequately in the Brisbane Canoeing Activities of group kayaking in the Brisbane Clubhouse nearby surrounds.

You will learn –
- Getting in and out of your kayak at a pontoon
- Keeping balance
- Paddling gear and kayak parts
- How to hold the paddle, go forward, back, sideways and use turn strokes
- Basic safety
We do not include assisted rescues or rolling.
The cost to participate is $125 for adults and $70 for kids under 18 yrs. All equipment is provided and you also receive $40 off a 12 mth membership. Includes Australian Canoeing Insurance for Trial Paddlers – 3 sessions only. Please download the session info to book your spot.
Booking is confirmed once payment is made. No refunds for non attendance.
You will need to bring:
- Hat and Sunscreen
- Clothes you are willing to get wet in
- Change of clothes and a towel (showers currently unavailable)
- Water bottle
- Lots of enthusiasm!
We supply boats, paddles, PFDs, supervision and advice.
Following your Intro To Kayaking sessions, you may wish to join the club, and participate in the follow-up activities and further your paddling skills and fitness in a group environment.
